What Should Be On Your Moving Checklists?

Moving is a huge project to undertake. It helps you stay organized if you have a moving checklist or two to make sure you get everything done. A moving out checklist will also stop you from procrastinating your packing and moving duties.

Two Months Before

It’s 8 weeks until the big day. Make sure you add these items to your list and check them off on time!

  • Start researching moving companies and pick one
  • Begin purging items you no longer need
  • Start the bureaucratic process
  • Moving school records to a new district
  • Finding a new doctor and dentist and getting records transferred
  • Finding other professional services you may need – accountant, lawyer, therapist etc.
  • Order packing supplies

One Month Before

Only four weeks left now! It’s time for the hard work to begin.

  • Take measurements of your new home
  • Pack things you rarely use but plan to keep
  • Dispose of items you plan to get rid of
  • Bring items to be donated
  • Have a tag sale
  • Bring bulky items to the dump

Two Weeks Before

  • Start packing seriously
  • Make sure to label all boxes and bags clearly
  • Change your address at the post office
  • Notify your bank, insurance companies, credit cards etc about your future change of address

One Week Before to A Few Days Before

  • Confirm all the details with the moving company
  • Pack yourself an overnight bag with a few changes of clothes, prescriptions and valuable items
  • Make sure everyone moving with you is aware of the plan for moving day
  • Order any new furniture you might need for your new place

The Week After the Move

  • Unpack essentials first
  • Create ways to organize your belongings, but be open to changing them as you settle in
  • Arrange the furniture
  • Explore your new city or town
  • Remember to find the time to relax!
