Moving Trailer Vs. Moving Truck

What Is a Trailer Moving Service?

A DIY Moving Option

When you are thinking of moving, you may wonder if you need to rent a moving truck and hire movers to do everything. Of course that is the easiest and most stress-free option, but some people also like to employ do-it-yourself elements into their moves. One way to do this is to attach a car moving trailer to your own vehicle instead of renting a truck. Then you can drive it to your new home yourself instead of having a professional driver do it. You can still hire movers to do all the loading and unloading, or packing and unpacking. Some people prefer to do the driving themselves so they are in control of when all items get to their new home. Trailers are also a great option for moving vehicles over long distances.

Often, a trailer rental may cost less than other types of rentals, making it a popular option for those on a budget. However, you do have to factor in the fuel economy. Hauling a large trailer behind your car or pickup truck will get you lower miles per gallon of fuel. However, the fuel economy of a pickup truck hauling a trailer is often still better than that of a full moving truck.

The Loading Process

Enclosed trailer rentals for moving are usually closer to the ground than a moving truck. They have lower ramps making it easier to get your items into it. However, if you get a truck for moving with a lift gate to help, that aspect may not be as important. Trailers also usually have a side door so you can get to some of your items during your trip. Trucks on the other hand, only have the back entrance.

The Driving Process

Most moving trucks do not require a special license, however, some of the larger ones do. Moving trailers never require a commercial driver’s license. Additionally, since you will be pulling the trailer with your car or pickup truck, there will be more seating available. That means you can switch off driving with your traveling party which might make the journey easier. Trucks usually only have space for two people. However, one downside to a moving van trailer is that it’s not usually available for a one-way trip. You may have to drive it back, or hire someone else to drive it back.
