Moving From House To Condo

Thinking of moving from a house to a condo? This a wise choice for many. Condos are smaller and perfect for new families, empty nesters, and people who simply want a decently sized, but perhaps more manageable, home. They are also generally considered easier to manage. There are fewer things to clean, and often times the HOA will help to take of exterior maintenance. Some view an HOA as a downside because there are fees that come with that. But, most view it as a good thing because it helps them save in the long run on things like gutter cleaning, power washing, snow removal, and more.

There are many other upsides to condo living. Most complexes offer some kind of amenities. They may include a community pool, a room you can book for large parties, grills outside for summer barbecues, on-site storage spaces, and a communal gym. Some even have an “office” where you can use a printer, wifi, and a fax machine.

However, there is one challenge that many people find when moving to a condo from a house: downsizing.

Here is a little moving to a condo checklist to help.

  • Leave at least a month, if not longer, to pack everything up. This is especially useful if you have a significant amount of stuff to go through and get rid of.
  • Spend a few hours each day going through each room.
  • Make different piles of what you’d like to keep, sell, give away, toss, and put into storage.
  • Take care of everything not going to your new home before the move. That way you won’t have to pay to move things that you’re not keeping.
  • Take extra time when deciding whether or not to keep sentimental items.
  • Be open to tossing some of your furniture and getting new pieces. What works in a larger home might not fit quite right in a smaller place.
  • Don’t get rid of too much stuff. You don’t want to find yourself saying “I wish I kept that!” when the move is over.

If you are ready to downsize from a home to a condo, you will definitely need professional movers on your side both to move your current items into your new condo, but also to move any other things into storage or haul them away to the local charity shop. Contact us to find out how we can help.
