Packing Tips for Moving

Packing can be an overwhelming experience. Some people hire professional packers to do the job, though many do it themselves. Packing and moving tips will help you pack all your items safely and securely. Follow these packing tips for moving house for a seamless move!

Tip #1: Get the Right Packing Supplies

For a successful packing experience, you will need the right supplies. Make sure to get enough boxes, plenty of packing paper, and bubble wrap for fragile items. Get wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes and a mattress cover to keep your bed neat and tidy during the moving process. There are also special boxes for items like bicycles, flat screen TVs, mirrors and framed art.

Tip #2: Don’t Get Liquor Store or Grocery Boxes

Boxes from the grocery store and liquor store aren’t the cleanest option for moving. Plus, many types of boxes, like some produce boxes have holes in them or don’t close all the way. These boxes work great for cabbages but not so great for your personal items that you don’t want to get lost. It’s best to stick with proper moving boxes.

Tip #3: Label Everything

Labeling everything during the packing process will not only make unpacking easy but it will also help you find things before you have fully unpacked. You can use a permanent marker to write on cardboard boxes, but some people prefer to use stick-on labels. Label multiple sides of each box, including the top, so you can easily tell what is inside from any angle.

Tip #4: Pack Your Personal Items Separately

Put a few changes of clothes, your everyday toiletries and any prescription medications you’ll need in an overnight bag. This is the bag you’ll live out of while you unpack. Putting essential items away in boxes ensures that you’ll spend a lot of time searching for them. If you don’t get to unpacking right away, your overnight bag will save you!

Tip #5: Pack a Little Bit Each Day

Packing a whole house is a huge chore that is easily put off when it seems overwhelming. However, if you just do two boxes or one room each day, it becomes a small task that can be broken up over a few weeks. If you really want to get on top of it, you can come up with a calendar to make sure you stick to your moving plan.

Now it’s time to start packing!
